Advice on how to help my cat.

My grandparents are going on holiday and instead of paying for the ridiculous amount of money kennels cost locally, it was suggested that I look after the cat at my place with my two housemates. We end up agreeing and then eventually the cat arrives, we set out her litter tray, her food and water bowls, scratches, everything that was given to us by my grandparents. Now, the thing is, she is a rescue and when I lived with my grandparents before she was already a timid little thing that was quite shy and stuck to herself, often scared of new experiences in both people and places. That being said, I was not expecting her to be super curious of the new place. She arrives and stays in her cage for the first couple of hours, just staring out of the open door as if she was wishing for it to be closed again. Sometime in the afternoon she left the cage and made her way into the storage under our stairs, where we are keeping the litter box and at first I was happy about this move, until some hours passed and she simply refused to move from the very back corner of the storage directly under the stairs. She is drooling quite a bit, to the point that the cardboard she has put herself next to is soaked, she has not touched any of the water or food, and her litter tray is completely undisturbed. This morning I decided to lay down near her and simply talk with her, hoping that simply interaction was something she wanted but that thought fizzled out as she began to growl at me, hiss occasionally, which made me think I was either frightening her or forcing her to become aggressive, either way I decided to get out and make this thread. I am genuinely worried, there is a part of me that believes she just needs a couple days to adjust, but the whole waiting the couple days if that is true whilst she is refusing to eat, has me worried. She is around seven years old, maybe eight, have had her since 2012.

Any and all advice will be read, thank you for reading and I genuinely look forward to some advice.
