I recently (2 days ago) Adopted a 2 yr old male cat from a rescue shelter. Upon adoption I had been informed that he had never actually once been formally adopted/fostered and had been moving from shelter to shelter since 3/20. Basically, all this little dude has known is cages.
I'm not a stranger to adoptions with cats as all I prefer to adopt is cats who need a home/''street'' cats. However, this one is kind of throwing me for a loop as Loki seems to have a few behavioural issues I have not experienced yet with any of my past or current (14 yr old) cats.
For example, when trying to direct his attention to his food bowl rather than the catnip sock, Loki attacked me, not viciously but in the manner of I am thankful they trimmed his claws or my arm would be swiss cheese. Loki attacks his bed rather than sleeps in it, not playful attacking either. Full-on snorting, rearing up and has already torn it open.
And of course, the spraying, despite him being fixed-which I assume is because of my other cat but this has never been an issue for me in the past.
I'm trying to chalk this up as he's never really been/or had a chance at being a normal cat before but I'm just not sure how to move forward.
I want to bond with him but he seems disinterested.
