As the title said, he had a blockage that was basically life threatening, so they had to catheter him and perform surgery to remove it. The vet said it could easily be a recurring problem without surgery, but we want to make sure to try the best food option we can ASAP to see if can reverse it. The problem is I have absolutely no idea how long these take to form. About 3 days ago his litter starting changing color showing a higher alkalinity, which means he is at risk of the crystals forming again. I just want to gauge how long we have to address this, because I don't want him to be in any pain. Now that it has happened we will know right away if he starts peeing outside the litter box and licking himself more often, but I just want to have a general idea of how long it could be before that happens again, should this alkalinity issue not be able to be fixed by food alone. Does anyone have any idea?
We put him on a mid priced urinary diet food, but clearly that is not doing enough. We want to just go to the most high quality stuff we can to hopefully stop this from happening again, so if anyone has any tips for that as well, or what has worked for you, please suggest.
Thanks!
