I have an 8 months old female cat who recently started showing "in heat" behavior. This is her third heat. I really don't want her to get sick, and it breaks my heart to see her going through the stress of Estrous. I struggled a lot before deciding to spay her because of two reasons : 1) taking away something that is her natural birth right / 2) the responsibility of taking care of a mommy and her entire litter
But i did finally decide to spay her, because i plan to keep her for life, and I don't know if i can handle the responsibility of breeding her. So I'm saving up some money to be able to afford all the costs, but it hurts to see her so stressed, meowing and yowling so much. She assumes the mating position whenever i pet the back of head, and quietly meows to me. My roommate has an intact male cat, so during her heat, i have to keep her in my room, and it makes me feel really guilty because she likes to roam around the house as she pleases and it feels like i'm confining her, taking away her freedom. She'll climb up to the window and start meowing like crazy. I'll try to put on like nature videos on tv to distract her, play her calming music or play with her, try making her sit on heat pads but nothing seems to help. She can't focus on anything else.
So i'm thinking, would it be a bad idea to let her get pregnant once before spaying her? Would it be a good experience for her, for both of us? In my country, it isnt a problem at all to find lovely families for newborn kittens, so I can make sure that each kitty finds a lovely home and will be taken care of. But what if giving birth makes the spaying experience more traumatizing for her?
What do u guys think? Is this a good or bad idea? If there would be any health complications, or any problem whatsoever that I am unaware of, I'd love to know.
