My dog turns 19 in August. I'm trying to figure out if it's better for him that I consider putting him down soon or let nature do it's thing. I'm struggling really hard with this decision as some days watching him makes me feel really sad for him and it seems he's getting no joy from life while others he chases animals (for a moment) and is super excited when my boyfriend gets home (I work and go to school from home, so he is with me all day).
He's losing his sight, hearing, and sense of smell. He has pretty bad arthritis and falls down a lot. He can't control his bodily functions anymore and looks lost and confused most of the time.
But, his lab work is great (no organ failure) and drinks and eats well. He does better when my best friend's puppy is around, but, that doesn't happen very often (a few times a year).
I really don't know what to do. Any help is appreciated.
