Cat just got diagnosed with diabetes. Vet wants $900 to observe her for two days. Is this normal?

We just found out our cat has diabetes, and our vet wants us to bring her in for an overnight stay to determine the insulin she should be on. I love my cat and would do anything for her, but we've already spent $800 just to get to this point, and now they want another $900 to determine the insulin dosage. This seems excessive to me, but I don't have any experience with feline diabetes.

I want my girl to get better and will do it if it's an absolute must but $1,700 just to get to the point where we know how to treat her seems insane. I called another vet and they said there's no reason why they can't choose a starting point, and then do a BG Curve to refine dosage from there. Does anyone have any experience with having their pet diagnosed with diabetes, or any suggestions?
