Kitten pooped on our bed

New rescue kitten, 11wks old. Vax up to date, wormed and flea-d etc. Home with us since Friday. She’s really confident and sassy. She’s been eating great, using the litter tray. She is getting used to the dog and slept in with the kids. She’s comfy with us and will play happily and purrs loads when we scritch her. We have two litter trays, one upstairs and one downstairs. She has used both a few times before. Her food is downstairs but she has two bowls (well, plates) of water, one upstairs and one downstairs.

At 6am, she came to our bed and was scratching the blanket. I didn’t twig what was happening until I heard a farty noise and a smell hit me. We cleaned it up, I picked her up immediately and put her in the litter tray just outside our door. She would have had to come past the litter tray from any other room to get to our bed.

She’s since been fine, ate up all her brekkie, chased the dogs tail and drank some water.

Any ideas what’s going on? What are we doing wrong?
