One scarfs food, one is a grazer….HELP
I’ve had my cat for a year now, and we are adopting another cat in a few days. Our current cat has issues with his food. He scarfs his food down way too quickly, and doesn’t know when to stop. He will eat any food he can get until he makes himself sick and vomits (he’s had this issue since we adopted him a year ago, he was a stray and presumably ate that way on the streets). We have him on a good routine now that prevents the vomiting, so he eats smaller portions throughout the day. According to the shelter, the new cat we’re adopting is a grazer when she eats. My worry is that if she has food in her bowl, my current cat will eat it and make himself sick, and she will not get enough food. When she arrives, I want to end the grazing and get her on a feeding schedule that matches the current cat. I just have no idea how to get her on a schedule and end the grazing. Any advice?

A cat and a trash can.
Only I need advice. How do I keep my 12 pound amarican short hair cat from tipping over my trash can and getting at the left overs. IS there anything I can do or do I just need to find a heavier trash can with a better lid? If so any suggestions?

My puppy is sick
My 8 week old puppy is sick from swapping foods (The brand it was on isn’t available here, the breeder forgot to give us the brand it was on)
The puppy is a Labrador
She has been having diarrhea, vomiting (nothing much coming out), and seems to have a low appetite.
Any recommendations on how to help? I gave her some pumpkin and pepto.
I haven’t fed her since 7pm (4 hours ago)
Questions: how long can she go without eating throughout the night and morning?
Should I slowly build her back up as in feeding her half a cup in the morning, afternoon, and night to ease her up?
Please help as soon as possible

Cat broke tooth 401 (smallest chiclet on bottom front) gums are swollen. ER vet says most likely will fall out since root is showing, advice on what to look for when it comes to infection?
As the post says our little boy recently broke a tooth biting on something and we rushed him to ER vet at 1 in the morning thinking it was possibly a jaw injury. Vet says it’s tooth 401 and his gums are swollen because of it. We have him on gabapentin that was prescribed to deal with pain, but just curious how long swelling usually lasts? We bought him soft food and called around. Quotes seem to be around $500-700 for removal which is fine if deemed necessary but we already have invested over $200 just for diagnosis and medications and would like to save money in case there’s any future health problems. Vet says the way it broke will most likely fall out but it’s been two days and there’s still some redness and swelling. Just wondering what to look for when there’s infection or if there’s anything to help with swelling? Do vets usually offer some installment billing? How serious is something like this usually?

when to put a pet down?
We have a 14 year old small dog. He's been with us through marriage, moves and children. All things that have stressed him out - he hates new people and new places. and he's always been on the edge of potty trained. He'll go for months with no problems but get stressed and start peeing in the house.
3 years ago we found out he had a lump on his bladder so cant crate him (holding urine makes the problem worse/potentially fatal over time). He's ruined a few rugs but we've managed. He has arthritis in his knees so going upstairs or out for walks are both difficult for him. 6 months ago he started having seizures so we are medicating him for those. A month ago he had an 'event' when we were out of town. When we picked him up he was blind, whimpering, circling, putting his head in corners. Just sad and awful. We said our goodbyes and I drove him to the emergency vet sure they would put him down. They gave him a steroid and he made a miraculous recovery. But. since we stopped the steroid he is getting less stable. He's circling, he sleeps most of the time. I'm home all day so I let him out at least 6 or 8 times a day but he poops in the house at least twice a day. It used to be occasionally and in a particular spot, but now its just wherever he is. Like he's confused. But he seems generally happy - just tired/lethargic. I can't tell what is age, what is the phenobarbital (for the seizures), and what is not feeling well. I think he feels okay? He's actually less cranky/snippy than he used to be.
We discussed with the vet and it seems likely that he has a series of tumors. She could keep him on the steroid for as long as it works and then we could put him down. But, we're moving across the country in a few weeks. If we were staying we would ride this out a while longer. But I know the move will upset him and, I have a million things I also have to manage (2 kids, new house, new jobs, etc) so it can't just be about his adjustment.
I'm really struggling, but I'm wondering if the kindest thing I can do for him is to put him down before we go? Is dragging a terminally ill pet on a stressful move just cruel? (fwiw, we have no choice and cannot delay the move)
would love perspective from people who have put beloved animals down 'at the right time'

Help!
I have 2 outside cats, and they used to get along great! But, thing is, we got them both neutered. Well, tried to. One is apparently a cryptorchid cat, so he was never neutered, but was put under anesthesia and all. Well, they're both acting aggressive towards each other now, and the one that actually got neutered has been acting scared of everything.

Having a lot of anxiety about roommate wanting me to rehome my cat; any tips?
I have a 2 year old deaf cat, Sila, who I adopted about 4 months ago. My roommate has a 2 year old male, Rozzy.
Sila is very attached to me and affectionate, but attacks Rozzy whenever they see each other. She has torn out fur and acts aggresive for seemingly nothing.
We've tried slowly introducing them several times but Sila always reverts to aggression. We've taken her to the vet, we've tried meds, we've tried catnip and Feliway. We now keep them separated by a cat gate, but Sila spends all day pacing by it, howling and trying to get to the other side to attack Rozzy. So I filled our house with stimulating toys for her, but she is only interested in Rozzy.
I feel horrible for Rozzy. Seriously, I hate that my cat hurt him. I also feel bad for Sila. My roommate wants me to rehome Sila but I feel so so awful about it, especially because she's been abandoned twice before and she trusts me so much.
I'm getting desperate, please help us

wet food help
My cat is being spayed on Friday and throughout her healing process, I want her to only eat wet food. There are three brands Im looking at: Fancy Feast, Iams and Earthborn. She’s 5 months old. The fancy feast and earthborn are targeted for both adult cats and kittens but I don’t know how to safe that is considering adults have different nutritional needs than a kitten. She’s on pro plan kitten rice and chicken formula dry. We used to feed her Iams when she was much younger but my country stopped importing it and we are gonna look but if there isn’t any, we’ll have to do either earthborn or fancy feast. In my country, they only import adult cat food and some say kittens can eat it. My question is how safe is that? Should I just get the earthborn and fancy feast?

My peeing dog is driving me insane
I have a 2 1/2 year-old dachshund and for some reason he loves to Pee in the house. I am so fucking over it. It doesn’t matter if I just take him out, if we go on long walks, if I take his water away he will find a way to pee somewhere in the house. I am exhausted of searching for, finding and cleaning up puddles of pee. Sometimes it’s literally after we just went out or small amounts that I know it’s not because he actually had to go potty and couldn’t hold it.
He is not my first dog, not by a long shot I’ve had like three at this point so I think I know a little bit about what I’m doing. He is actually potty trained as well and has never peed in front of me or anyone else in the house. He just goes off like a little asshole and pees when I’m napping or not paying attention. I have a dog walker who takes him out 2 times during the day while I’m working and we go to the dog park almost daily so I’m no lazily owner either. I’m honestly to my damn limits here. I love my dogs but I just can’t take it anymore.
I crate him when I’m not at home to prevent him from peeing all over my place. I use anti marking spray and odor spray remover to discourage him going there again. I’ve honestly never had a problem like this. I hate putting him in the crate when I’m home but I just get sooo frustrated when i find pee on the ottoman or the bed post. What is going on? Any tips and actual help?

Male cat's nipple looks red and irritated. How concerned should I be?
I have a male tabby, 5 years old, generally good health besides a little chonk. I noticed just one of his nipples is red and looks irritated, although he didn't seem too bothered by me inspecting it. It's just the one nipple, I've been watching him and he doesn't seem to be messing with it. Should I take him to the vet? I did some Googling but most of the results were about females.

Can I get my outdoor cat used to being at home all the time?
I live in a safe area so my cat is allowed to go outside but once I'll move out with him to a bigger city he won't have that privelege anymore.
I plan to take him on walks with a harness every day but my therapist (we got off topic and talked about cats lol) says that it might not work out because he was raised as an outdoor cat.
While I don't mind him complaining, he might find a way to run away and go missing or die. I don't want to risk that..
He's really desperate when it comes to being outside, he's even jumping off the windows on the first floor so we need to be carefull, which is something my future roommates may not respect.
Is taking that risk and bringing him with me worth it? I really don't want to leave him behind, he's my baby and I'll already have to leave my birds at home (I doubght anyone would let me rent a flat with two loud, messy and destructive creatures).
I'll take all of my animals back from my mum once I'll get my own place in a safe neighbourhood but it will take years for it to happen..

Has anyone ever lost a cat in a neighborhood that wasn’t theirs and still found them? It was my dads house. We’ve been doing things like putting his litter, box bed etc on my dads porch. found baby crow in garden, NEED ADVICE
I’ll just make this as short as possible. When I was outside turning the hose off I seen a crow dragging itself around in the garden with its mouth fully open and looking up (it’s been +40°C for a few days now. it’s very very hot) I did a little research and realized it’s very dehydrated. I’ve done as much as I know but I’m hoping a bird owner is on this reddit and has advice for birds with heat?
I’ve put it in cold water and let it sit, let it drink lots. I’ve also brought it into my back porch because i thought the ac would be better. Yes, I’m aware birds carry dangerous diseases but I didn’t want to leave it to die.

New British Shorthair Kitten doesn’t like fiancé and I :( / very antisocial
Hi everyone! New cat owner here
My fiancé recently bought 2 new kittens - both are British shorthairs. We have both never had cats before but are obsessed!
The first cat (Male) is 4 months old and joined us in April. The 2nd (Female) her name is Mona, is 2.5 months old and we’ve had her 3 weeks.
The elder cat is very friendly, cuddly, loving, and wants to play all day with Mona. He hops in the bed every night. He is also VERY clean/doesn’t shed.
Mona is uninterested in all of us and couldn’t be more different (from same breeder). We try to pet her, she gets up. I try to lay next to her, she moves. I pick her up, she can’t wait to be put down. I rub her head, she turns the other way. HELP! She’s also way less cleanly than the elder cat which is interesting.
Is this normal for some cats? she’s so adorable it makes me so sad.
Something upsetting but important: ***My fiancé gave her to friends for 3 days only 3 days after we brought her home during a business trip. I’m scared she resents us. LOL
My fiancé wants to give her back to the breeder since she is cold and I’m so sad/hoping it’s a phase?
TLDR: 2 new kittens, the female British shorthair is uninterested and antisocial/ cold towards us. Is this normal/what can we do?

New pet for my wife and I!
Unfortunately my Betta fish recently passed away after living a happy 3 years in his planted tank all to himself. My wife was really upset about it and I miss the little guy too. Before he passed, I was entertaining the thought of upgrading him to a 10/20 Gallon tank and adding in some Betta safe community fish.
Now that he is gone however, the thought of getting a totally new little friend or friends has crossed my mind. I'm still considering just upgrading the aquarium but with that same space I could house a reptile or small animal and have a pet I can actually interact with rather than strictly watch.
I'm torn on what route to go. Currently we're considering a leopard gecko, some kind of small rodent (heavily leaning towards fancy mice but a gerbil or hamster is not out of the question), or the aquarium. In a perfect world, I would absolutely LOVE a pair of fancy rats and they're like the perfect mix of size and affection level but I worry the space we have in our room may be too small or just plain awkward for an enclosure that size. (Whatever we get will be going on our dresser, no real space on the floor in the ro for something so big.)
Let me know which you guys think is the best choice! Budget isn't really a concern it's more of a space issue. Feel free to tell me your preferences and experience with any of these animals as well!

Laws/Liability Concerning Dogs
There is a post on my community's FB page concerning a dog that was hit by a motor vehicle. The unrestrained dog got into the road and was hit by a passing pick-up truck that did not stop. From the sounds of it, it is possible the driver did not know a dog was hit. The dog owner is understandably distraught and angry. They want to "catch" the driver who did this. I'm curious what, if any responsibility or liability the driver has in this situation. My perspective is that the owner has an absolute responsibility to restrain the dog to keep it safe from dangerous situations. This happened in a semi-rural area where there are no leash laws. It is my understanding that dogs must be restrained in public nevertheless. What actual liability does the driver have? I think the driver has zero liability. No crime was committed. The driver has no responsibility to the dog owners. What do they think is going to happen if they "catch" the driver?

Cat ate muffin mix, help
He's about a year old, about 6 or 7 lbs. He got a few licks of muffin mix when my back was turned. Ingredients are Enriched bleached flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), sugar, food starch, salt, dextrose, arabic gum, soybean oil, leavening (baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate) tapioca starch, xanthan gum and citric acid. I messed up the introduction of my two cats
I got a cat from a foster (4 months old) that was very friendly, and was listed as being great with other cats and even dogs. So when I got my second kitten (2 months old) I wasn't too worried about them getting along. It was incredibly stupid of me. The older one did NOT like the younger at ALL. She doesn't violently attack her but she growls, hisses and sometimes slaps her in the face! I don't think she's doing any harm, at least not that I can tell, but sometimes she does slap her hard. It's only been a few days now, and I don't know if I'm seeing progress or if it's wishful thinking. Any suggestions on how to fix this? IS there a way to fix this?

Paternity Leave For Adopting A Fur Baby.
Hi guy this is my first post so forgive anything that I may have done wrong lol.
So I had an idea and thought maybe I should share it with y’all. What if people that adopt puppies, kittens, or any fur baby received paternity leave from jobs to potty train them. Nothing too crazy but maybe 1-2 weeks of paid leave (assuming not everyone knows how to perfectly train their newfound lifelong best friend and baby).

Just a cat…..
Last night we had to take our older cat into the emergency vet due to breathing issues. We have been dealing with this for awhile. First it was just her allergies, then an asthma flair, then the asthma not getting better, to now something going on in her nose that will require a CT scan and a scope up her nose. We are going to be spending up to 4000 dollars in treatment. I know many people would say why spend that she is just a cat……
And they would be right she is just a cat….. A cat that says good bye to my husband every morning. She waits for him by the door for her good bye pats
She is just a cat…. That some how knows when my husband is coming home and will wait for him by the door
She is just a cat…. That when someone isn’t feeling well she is lay next to them purring helping to make them feel better
She is just a cat… that has helped my daughter learn how to be gentle with animals by being gentle with her
She is just a cat…. That is such an important part of this family.
So to those that say she is just a cat…. I say to you, you are just a human. She is an amazing dynamic cat that we will try to help live a long and healthy life as long as she keeps fighting. Thank you for reading about my amazing sweet princess kitten.

How to remove mats from DLH fur?
I have a 1yo DLH and she loves the bathtub. She just likes to sit in it after we get out of the shower and there’s just a bit of water by the drain. Problem is, this causes her to build up mats between her back legs and along her butt. We took her to the groomers once, but it was pretty expensive to remove only 2 clumps. She isn’t a big fan of being brushed and since the mats are on her underside, she makes it pretty difficult for us to get at them.
Any advice on how to get these mats out? Or recommendations for de-matting tools?

My brothers dog doesn't poop when he should
Hi, my brother has a shiba inu breed dog (around 2 months old), who only poops at midnight; he wasn't like this earlier, and i think its because of me.His name is Rango btw.
So, my brother is not always home, which means i should take of Rango which i cant do as well as i should because of exams . Apparently you should remove the poop so the spot the dog poops on doesnt get too dirty and uncomfortable; i cant check on Rango all the times my brother isnt around, so things can get very messy before i can prevent them
So, why is it my fault? Well apparently one morning the dog pooped on the floor and on the "plate"( English is not my first language ; dont know what exactly you ppl call the plastic "plate" your dog poops on), and on the floor, and while i was cleaning the whole thing , Rango was too playfull and energic that it disrupted me and i lost my control ,.....and did something i shouldn't have done . Anyway now our dog thinks he shouldnt poop because we will punish him; what should i do?

Persuade my in-laws to take old dog to vet?
My in laws have an old dog, about 11 years old. Recently his gums bleed when he plays with toys and he constantly licks his lips/teeth so to me it seems like he's got dental problems.
I know he's not been to the vet for dentals before, and they don't brush his teeth.
Whilst they like their dog and he's otherwise well looked after, they just say "it's fine, we give him those dental sticks" and say that cleans his teeth. They say he's "just old now, so his teeth will be like that". They don't want to spend lots of money on him even though they are not struggling for money. My in laws are nice people but don't seem to know much about pet health.
It makes me pretty angry as I care about animals so much and can't bear to think their dog is in pain. I know you are supposed to brush dog's teeth and go for yearly checkup visits.
How do I convince them to take him for a dental check up? Any help appreciated. I know he's not my dog but I visit their house a lot and care about the dog.

Is this feeding schedule ok for a cat?
I’m at school from 8:10-2:30pm so there are only certain times i can feed my cat.
I give him one wet food sachet in the morning at 8am right before i leave
another at 2:40pm-3pm as soon as i get home from school
and another at 9-10pm right before i go to sleep along with some treats
throughout the day he has dry food available at all times as well as fresh water even when i’m not there so he never goes hungry.
but i’m worried the gap between his wet food in the morning and in the afternoon is too long. but there’s physically no way i can feed him during school hours.

Kitten don't use litter box, help
So my mom just gave me a kitten who is atleast more than 4 weeks old. And because of that it took me 2 days to prepare a litter box so the cat have been pooping and peeing in the corners. But he still won't use the box, he goes into the cold hard concrete floor and poop there, then scratches the floor like it's sand to cover his poop.

Help with neighbors cats
Hello all, new here so forgive me for posting this if not allowed but I need advice on my neighbors cat coming into our backyard and pooping everywhere. I have left a note on their door about two weeks ago but it’s still happening. I have footage of their cats coming in from their direction into my lawn so I know it’s their cats. What can I do? Should I get animal control involved? They have like 7 cats that they keep in the garage with the door cracked open to let them in and out when they want. Thank you.

I’m terrified of my dog dying
My dog was estimated to be 1 when we first met him- he was a stray who was dumped (our neighborhood had a lot of dumped dogs). Now he is 15 and white decorated his brown fur.
I made a post about him here before about how much I love him, but I’m afraid his condition has worsened since then. It takes him so much energy to look up at me in the morning or when I just come to say hi. We take him to the vet a lot, and they took him off of his special kidney diet. The medicine our previous vet gave him for his joints had seriously damaged his kidneys and liver, but with the special food, he became very hungry and tried eating plastic. The vet put him on regular food and said he would be happier with whatever time he has left.
He stole our cats food a few days ago, and when I tried to pull him back (very gently) he growled at me. He never ever does that. Even when I was an annoying little kid yapping about, he wouldn’t growl at me. But we feed him well, and he gets treats- it’s like he’s losing his mind. He can’t hear me anymore and barely sees me.
I’m losing my best friend. I just don’t know how to cope with him getting older. He was my rock for so long, the foundation of what made me want to live. What do I do.

Tips to help your pets stay cool in a heatwave when you house is 50000 degrees inside?
Currently in the midst of an intense heatwave that is not the norm for the area we live! I feel bad for my cats. They are melting.
We have fans set up, extra water bowls set up and I put some ice cubes in their water but they do not seem to care about the ice.

Advice needed: moving with cat AND introducing him to puppy
Hi all! Looking for any and all advice. I'm moving into a new house in another state with my 7 year old male cat and not only will he have to go through the moving process and acclimating to a brand new territory, but he will also be sharing his new home with a puppy (5 month old yellow lab male). How can I best ease this transition? I'm planning to keep my cat and puppy separate at first and when I do introduce them I will let my cat have full control of the situation for as long as he needs, but I know that acclimating to a new territory will also be hard on him.
Possibly helpful context: My cat has met dogs before and has done pretty well. He's a big boy (18 pound fluffy tabby). However, he's moved with me in the past and these transitions are tough for him (he's an indoor cat who very much likes his routine and familiar smells).
Thank you so much!

Cat Wound Help!!!
Hi all,
I have three cats and just adopted the third three weeks ago. We did the slow introduction however unexpectedly, our very mild natured cat has been swiping at the new cat. It has resulted in a couple of cuts on her forehead that now have sparse hairs around them. Additionally, her nose has been cut pretty badly. I absolutely adore this cat and want to make it work.
- Is there anything that should be done of the wounds? We blot them daily with warm water and they seem to be healing and are uninfected. However, the cuts on her forehead she seems to keep reopening so we aren't sure how to keep her from scratching there.
- What should be done about the social dynamics? What suggestions do you have for reintroducing them and at least getting her to a point where she is nonviolent towards the new cat?
Thank you!

How to stop cat from entering cubbies full of wires?
I have a young cat(1 yr) that just adopted a little less than a month ago. Recently, he decided that he wants to jump into two specific cubbie like sections in my desk. Right behind the router and modem (which kicks in the internet off) and right behind my PC. Both are full of rather unorganized wires. I can see why he wants to go in there, they're covered little holes, but there's plenty of other spots he can go in instead.
I've tried spraying water, giving him another activity to do, a firm "NO" and trying to tire him out before I get on my PC (right down to the point where he pants) but no matter what I do, the moment I'm not looking he sprints into these spots. He knows he's not allowed to. He only does it when I'm on my computer, but simply not being on my computer ever isn't much of an option.
Are there any ways I can get him to stop ? Will I need to rearrange my entire living room to remove these cubbies? He doesn't do this to any of my housemates and their more dangerous spots, just me.
(He also does a similar thing with eating our calathea - I've given him cat grass for that but he doesn't seem to take to it)

Need advice on stressed out cat
So I went out of town this last weekend and my cat ended up in icu with blocked urethra. They say it was stress related . I’m moving soon so there are boxes everywhere but I’ve been out of town before and he’s never had a freak out like this.
I am moving to europe from America in two months. I was planning on taking him but he hates traveling and I can’t decide whether to take him or rehome him to a friend. I want to keep my cat obviously but am I being selfish for wanting him to travel? It’s a LONG trip (like 24 hrs) and I don’t want to make it worse for him.
Advice?

My cat is trying to dig into my mattress from underneath
Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I hear clawing noises underneath my bed. If I’m lucky I can catch my cat in the act before she stops, and I see that she’s trying to dig up into my mattress. She recently did this to my roommates box spring, so she’s not allowed in his room anymore.
She has a crazy amount of energy compared to my other cat, and we just moved into a new, much smaller apartment than the condo she was raised in. I’m wondering if the smaller space and amount of energy she has is causing her to do this? She used to bounce off the walls and tire herself out before bed, but now it’s a little harder for her to do that, so I’m worried that this is where she’s putting the energy. Any suggestions on what to do would be very helpful!

Are there potential affectionate or laidback indoor pets suited to working a 5 day week?
Hello!
So, I've enjoyed being a pet owner all of my life though it's predominantly been cats and dogs. 2y ago I raised 4 kittens from birth alone (pregnant rescue!) along with involvement with many other cats and dogs in my life, and I enjoy nurturing and caring for animals as if they are family. I'm 21 so still have lots to learn.
I have one cat currently - I kept him from the litter of 4 and he is wonderful. Unfortunately he's very much liking the summer outdoors and is rarely in the house. He is fit and healthy, but part of me is selfish and misses having an indoor pet that takes a bit more involvement with care. I'm autistic and live alone, and while I'm relatively introverted, animals are much easier to understand and cohabit with lol - along with being a lifelong special interest. I thrive on routine so relatively high maintenance or daily cleaning would not be an issue. I found kittens very rewarding due to routine being beneficial to them, too.
I am wondering if there are many pets which would suit working (fairly reasonable) chef hours as I work far too much for a dog however would like a pet to look after, keep up with care etc. I love rats but am concerned my cat would smell and thus pester them! An affectionate pet which does not mind me being out for work is ideal, if they exist - companion animals are fine if they are happy with others of their species during the day (can afford whatever / whomever they need) and I would have the rest of the day to clean, give company, care or whatever else needed. They don't have to be stuck to my side all of the time, but they would ideally not dislike contact or handling (so no tarantulas)!
I made a decent salary, but anything that will hike my electricity bill 4x is probably less than ideal, too.
I'm not going to run out and impulsively adopt an animal immediately after this post, so don't worry about that or take it too seriously. I'm just wondering what options may be available for me to research that I'm not aware of! Thank you x

What should I do with a cat that is harrassing my parrot.
Hi guys, very friendly pet person here. I live in Australia and have a problem. We have an alexandrine Parrot who is about 12 years old and every morning we put his cage outside for the day (he sleeps inside of a night) to get some fresh air. He is under our pagola and is out of the elements (sun, rain etc). He loves it outside and squarks alot when inside during the day. For the last 10 years we have placed his cage outside and everyone is at work for around 8 hours but recently a cat has been jumping on his cage and scaring him to death (he is visibly panting and makes distressed squarks when it happens). I'm just wondering what I should do about this. I have seen a collar on the cat but it runs off too fast to be able to see its name or where it's from. I am currently keeping my bird (who's name is Max) inside from fear of this cat killing him from fright. What should I do about this?

Why does my cat get hyper the second the lights go off?
I’ve had my cat for almost a year, and she’s just a little over one year old. For the entire time I’ve had her, she’s slept with me in my room no problem. However, starting about a month ago, the second I turn off the lights and turn on my fan to go to sleep, she gets crazy hyper. And I mean literally the second I do that. She was just hanging out with me in bed sleeping, and the minute I turned the lights off, she perked up and is now running around the room and meowing like crazy. This never used to bother her.
There have been a couple of big changes for her this last month, such as my ex moving out and me starting a full time job after being home for the entire pandemic. I totally thought that this could be the cause, however she wasn’t really close with my ex and her day to day interaction with people hasn’t really changed.
I got her melatonin treats and I give them to her pretty much every night, and she usually calms down and sleeps after eating them, but she seems to be tired of them and won’t eat them anymore.
I love her to death, but this is driving me crazy! Even when I play with her right before bed, it doesn’t help. We also have another cat in the apartment, and they rough house with each other all day.
Any tips??? Being woken up right as I’m dozing off every single night sets me up for some pretty lousy sleep ):

PetAtHome in the UK has mysteriously not published my critical review of Royal Canin dog food
Hi,
To my horror, I recently discovered how trash this dog food is after an exchange with a dog food review site owner. Summary: it's basically dirt packaged as premium dog food.
I posted a review on PetsAtHome to war other dog owners, but it hasn't been published. The product is still sitting at 21 reviews, with an average of 5 stars - real believable.
Now of course, it's their site and they can publish or not anything they like. I became suspicious as it was a coupon from this store that got me onto this food in the first place, after months of hearing vets say good things about it.
Two things learnt: 1) unregulated medicinal services mean that medical staff are possible for sale, and 2) stores like money and will happily and presumably take it in exchange for censorship and prominent retail space.
Word of warning. By all accounts, this food is not a premium food. It's a budget food at premium prices.

Cat acting weird after leaving the house for a day
Hi everyone. I have 2 cats (siblings), almost a year old. They've recently gotten fleas and I asked my friend to look after one of them for 24 hours so the other one doesn't like off the flea medication. He has a cat too, and they didn't get along (hissing, staring, etc). After coming back home, he makes the weird noises I've never heard before. He is aggressive to his sibling, doesn't come on the couch anymore, doesn't go on his cat tree. Its been more than a week now, and they get along fine now, but he still won't go on the tree or the couch. I've tried to clean it, put treats on it. He will try to grab the treats with his paws, but not chill there like before. What is going on??
Side note: the sibling that stayed home was super stressed after he left and was passing gass, which I could smell before he arrived. Did the prodigal cato smell fear and go into survival mode?

Cat peeing outside the litter box
Tl:dr - could my cat be upset at my partner and therefore act out by peeing outside the box?
I have a 12 year old ginger tabby who recently started peeing outside her litter box. She will do it the one time and then the rest of the time will pee inside the litter box like normal. As soon as we clean up the pee she will pee outside again before resuming peeing as normal. My partner and I don’t know what to do and it’s become a strong point of contention between us.
We adopted a kitten about a year and a half ago and she’s playful and likes to play with my older cat…who unfortunately does not like her or her energy. I was thinking she is stressed because of her but even though the kitten has been here for over a year, the peeing problem is pretty recent. I don’t think the level of animosity she feels towards the kitten has increased. It hasn’t gotten better but I don’t think it’s gotten worse either.
I’ve taken her to the vet numerous times and she has had a history of crystals so she’s on the recommended vet diet. Her crystal count has decreased in her urine and she’s gotten shots/medication for urinary infection.
My partner recently took over litter cleaning duties (I’m pregnant and he won’t let me clean the litter at all) so I feel bad that he’s constantly cleaning her mess. Even after he’s completely changed out her litter and sprayed the tray the box is on, her first pee will always be outside the box. It’s gotten so bad that he’s always angry at her and I have started wondering if she doesn’t like my partner and that’s why she is peeing outside the box. I will ask my vet for a recommendation for a cat behaviorist but until then, if anyone has experienced anything similar I would appreciate any insight you have. I love both my partner and my cats so much and it makes me so sad to see both of them so stressed while feeling like I can’t do anything to help. Thank you for reading!

Need help, cat won't stop pooping on the same spot, have tried almost everything
Did not raise from when she was a kitten, not sure how old she is, but going to guess maybe 5-6 years old. My partner found her as a stray, and he only had one or two incidents with her in the 7 months he had her before we moved in together. We have tried having two litterboxes, a handful of different litters, plenty of Nature's Miracle, giving her more love and attention, light discipline when caught in the act, moving her litter box. She always uses her box to pee and intermittently uses her box to defecate, but at least once a day will poop outside the box. We are at our wit's end. She went two months max without an incident and then started again. It has been almost three years of this, and got worse when we got a dog. He is very friendly and has learned to leave her alone, but she abhors him and will hiss at him if he just looks at her. She has a whole walk-in closet to herself and plenty of room between her food and water bowls, and her bin is always kept clean and is now kept in an enclosed box to separate the space. The vet told us it was probably just behavioral, in which case, I don't know if we can keep her, but we are trying to do everything we can to try to fix this.

Is panting in cats always a problem?
I have two cats are who are both about 2.5 years old. I take them on walks around my neighborhood and they get so excited by the sounds and smells that they start panting. They do the same thing when they chase after a bug in my condo (cicada season was interesting). They're both healthy and the vet didn't mention any health issues, respiratory or other. However, I've seen several posts noting that cats aren't supposed to pant and it's a sign of illness or stress. I'm inclined to believe that they are just in hunt mode because they're both healthy, in good shape, and love exploring. They wouldn't rush to the door when it's time to walk around if they found it stressful, and since they both do it (and aren't related) I think it might be a shared excitement. Is it possible that this is just a little quirk of theirs, or do I need to get them checked out?

My dog has chronic anal sac disease, and my vet refuses to remove them. Any advice?
Hes 5 and for about 3 years now, his anal sacs are constantly infected (from having too much secretions) and he expresses his anal glands at least once a day, every day.. on the carpet, couch, his bed. This poor boy keeps grunting at his butt, and our home smells like dead fish left out on a hot day. The vet keeps injecting antibiotics and steroids into his glands, and expressing them. She said i need to come in once every 2 weeks to express them and get the injections… it costs me $150 per visit!! I asked about anal gland removal but she said thats excessive and he doesn’t need it. If meds arent helping, and expressing them isnt working, am I a bad owner for wanting to argue and fight for a surgery, especially because i feel like spending $300 a month for the rest of god knows how long is unaffordable and not worth it if its not working?

Cat hates going back to parents house — what do I do?
She was born in my parents house and lived there for 5 years until I moved into a house in college. She LOVES that house and my roommates, but whenever I bring her back to my parents house she wont stop growling and hissing at my other cat and dog. She used to love them so much and now hates their guts.
She even growls at me but she lets me pet her and pick her up. She still does stuff too like rub against me and purr but then starts to growl and get upset.
Is there anything I can do to calm her down? I once brought her here for a month and by week 4 she was back to normal. When I bring her back to my college house she instantly turns back to normal too.

3mo puppy is aggressive out of nowhere.
My puppy attacked me and my boyfriend yesterday at a family party. She was super overstimulated and i now have scratches on me from her teeth. I eventually was able to walk away and she calmed down. But today, she once again attacked me. I put her on my bed where she normally relaxes and takes naps. However, today she started getting up in my face growling snarling and barking super load. I moved my head back but then she bit my nose. Im currently sobbing because i feel like im doing something wrong and I feel like she really hates me. She doesnt have any kind of connection to me. My boyfriend says she loves me but i dont think so. She never wags her tail when she sees me or gets excited. But if a stranger walks up to her she gets super excited. I just feel so lost with everything.

Never ending fleas! Any advice?
I’m going mad with these fleas and don’t know what else to do.
We have 2 pugs and noticed around 3 weeks ago one of them was itching a lot. I don’t know why but I just didn’t think of fleas. After a few days the second dog started itching so I thought I would check her and saw a couple fleas in her fur.
We straight away gave them both a bath. Bought frontline spot on treatment. Sprayed the house, hoovered and also washed their beds, sofa cushions etc. I knew that probably wouldn’t be the end of it due to the eggs but we repeated the whole process twice now. There definitely seems to be less fleas. When we wash them we can’t see any come out compared to the first time. And I’ve just checked one of their furs and haven’t seen one as of yet. But then yesterday I saw one on the sofa. So if there’s one I’m sure there’s a lot more.
I’ve seen some recommendations but I’m from the UK and some things aren’t as easily accessible. I can’t apply another frontline until another week. Do I just need to do this cleaning process daily until they’re gone?

What is the issue with cats and reptiles?
In every post where a cat interacts with a reptile, like a lizard or a turtle, all the comments are full of people saying, that cats have bacteria that is toxic too them and the same goes for the other way around. These comments often get really rude calling op a piece of shit for not caring about the pets ect.
This seems to be a common saying on reddit yet i have a hard time actually finding factual information about this. Can someone here explain if it is true what is being said there?

I currently have 2 adult male cats who are both 6 years old. Lately I'm home alone very often and have found myself browsing my local rescue centre's website and seeing all of the cats needing a home. In my hometown I've noticed there's a whole lot more than usual, and as an animal lover it pains me. I found this kitten I really like the look of, a scruffy medium haired thing that I've just fallen in love with. I'm doing a lot of study at the moment and would just adore this little lass accompanying me through my late nights. I've done a lot of research about introducing a 3rd cat and they all say it should be a kitten. One of my current cats is very territorial/shy while the other is very sweet/bold. I really don't want to get my hopes up that she'll be available. But in your opinion, should I get a kitten?

Ferret: My roommate is moving in with his ferret, help?
My new roommate is moving in soon and he has a ferret. I, being from California, have no experience with ferrets and want to be welcoming. Are there any toy recommendations that I can give as a welcoming gift? Additionally, how does one go about playing or interacting with a ferret? I’ve grown up with cats and dogs and have been told that ferrets have the playfulness of a dog but the temperament of a cat. Any advice? My roommate says his ferret is a friendly little dude (he even goes on walks around the neighborhood) and I want to provide a welcoming environment and be knowledgeable on care just in case. I love animals but am a bit nervous to meet the lil guy. (Absolutely coming at this with a happy and warm approach, more so looking for recommendations and advice!) : )

My cat hissed at my friend after shower
My cat is fine with my friend, but 2 times now after she has showered he hissed at her when she walked past him. I then picked him up to show him she's not a threat and he just meowed for like 7 seconds. This is not normal for my cat at all, he's a bit of a odd shy cat. I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I've heard him meow in nearly 3 years.
Anyone know why he would be doing this? Me and my cat are close so i wonder if it's jealous behaviour.

Hesitant to Share dog with bf
So I’ve been talking about getting a dog for at least 5 years now. I’ve always wanted to raise a puppy and be a dog mom and have a special relationship with my dog. And now I finally adopted a puppy! She’s so cute and I love her already. My boyfriend of 2 years has asked if he can be the ‘father’. I wasn’t really even sure what that meant but he says he would basically help raise her. Also, we don’t live together. So I know this is weird but I don’t know how I feel about that. I’ve waited so long to get my child and now I don’t want to share. I know it sounds selfish... The thing that is most off putting is he’s mentioned multiple times that it’s fair if the owner does not get to keep the dog if they are not the primary caretaker. Which is reasonable however it makes me feel if I let him coparent he would fight for custody even though he knows that I had the dog first and she was mine originally. If I lost my dog I would be so hurt and pissed. Anyways I’m not sure if I’m overthinking or if I’m being too protective or territorial.

Need help with ringworm kitten
i adopted a kitten (3 months currently) a month ago who had been getting treated for ringworm while she was still at the humane society. she tested negative once while in the shelter and when i went to get her first test done after adopting her, her results came back positive. she doesn't have any lesions however and i, or anyone else in my household for that matter, do not have ringworm. i've been giving her her oral medication everyday and giving her her medicated baths every three days, twice a week. i feel really bad for her because she has to quarantine in my room with me as its the only room in the house she can be in. i currently have one of those outdoor playpens set up with a blanket zip tied to the top so she can have her own space without getting out. i am a college student currently in summer session so it has been a bit difficult without having normal access to my room and i am finding very little help elsewhere online.
since she has no lesions but tested positive, about how much longer do i have to maintain this if it's possible to give an estimate? i've been taking her to the shelter as they stated they would continue her treatment and testing but the results take about two weeks, should i continue to go to the shelter clinic for the treatment or go to a vet? she's been getting treated for over a month since she was being treated while in the shelter as well. do the two negative tests need to be consecutive to one another?
thanks all for your help, sorry if this post was a bit scatterbrained!

My cat has been peeing on my couch for no apparent reason
My male cat Mango (1yr) started peeing on my couch after my sister-in-law visited for a couple weeks (he was obsessed with her when she was here). She left and he continued this behavior for a reason we can’t figure out.
We’ve brought him to the vet and everything was cleared. We got rid of that couch and got a new leather couch and he’s still doing it.
The peeing usually happens in the morning before we feed him his first meal of the day. He also did it when we left to take our other cat for a walk (he doesn’t get to go outdoors because he’s extremely scared of strangers).
He still uses his litter boxes for both peeing and pooping just fine. We started putting aluminum foil on our couch and that seems to work but we’re looking for a more permanent solution.

We adopted my dog from a rescue, she was being sold at a flee market by some guy, when we adopted her she had really bad flees and namonia, but she's all grown up now and recovered, she's really happy and a great edition to our family.

What is considered vet malpractice?
I have 7 furry children that are all bunnies. I’ve had bunnies for over 7 years and many are from being rescued from the streets, others adopted. In my city there is only one animal hospital that dedicates itself fully to exotic animals. The only adopted bun I have right now had an issue with her eye, and they had to put in a stint and sow her eyelids to push the eye back in. She was on medication and needed rechecks, but overall was fine. I was afraid of her losing her eye so I didn’t mind paying for anything that she needed, but they never found the cause of her eye bulging out of it’s socket.
They took out her stints from her eyelids and said that she might not loose her eye, but her eyelids are now too stretched and they might have to cut them if they dont shrink. I said alright, this should work out since they confidently told me she would return to normal, just a lil crooked eye possibly. It’s been four days and I’ve noticed that where they have sowed her eye, the eyelid is coming off! It’s like it was extremely damaged with the sting and is now peeling off, on both the top and bottom eyelid. I know this because bunnies have eyelashes and those are connected to the part that is peeling. I immediately called and they fit me in for 2 days from now, but I’m irritated that this happened and was assured that she was fine and the stints weren’t on too hard. They didn’t put any numbing cream or type of anesthesia when they took out the stints, and I told them my bunny is fussy and doesn’t like to be held. I’m starting to think the vet shook it off and probably did it with her just awake. She was probably spooked and part of her eyelid ripped while he took it off.
I want to know if this is vet malpractice? I’ve payed enough for her to have been cared for properly and now I’m going to pay more for what is coming next. I want to know if this is my fault that I didn’t notice or possibly didn’t observe her well? Or would this be the vets fault and should I prepare a conversation when I go in to the office in two days. I’d really like other pet parents and beyond opinions.
