My in laws have an old dog, about 11 years old. Recently his gums bleed when he plays with toys and he constantly licks his lips/teeth so to me it seems like he's got dental problems.
I know he's not been to the vet for dentals before, and they don't brush his teeth.
Whilst they like their dog and he's otherwise well looked after, they just say "it's fine, we give him those dental sticks" and say that cleans his teeth. They say he's "just old now, so his teeth will be like that". They don't want to spend lots of money on him even though they are not struggling for money. My in laws are nice people but don't seem to know much about pet health.
It makes me pretty angry as I care about animals so much and can't bear to think their dog is in pain. I know you are supposed to brush dog's teeth and go for yearly checkup visits.
How do I convince them to take him for a dental check up? Any help appreciated. I know he's not my dog but I visit their house a lot and care about the dog.
