I have 7 furry children that are all bunnies. I’ve had bunnies for over 7 years and many are from being rescued from the streets, others adopted. In my city there is only one animal hospital that dedicates itself fully to exotic animals. The only adopted bun I have right now had an issue with her eye, and they had to put in a stint and sow her eyelids to push the eye back in. She was on medication and needed rechecks, but overall was fine. I was afraid of her losing her eye so I didn’t mind paying for anything that she needed, but they never found the cause of her eye bulging out of it’s socket.
They took out her stints from her eyelids and said that she might not loose her eye, but her eyelids are now too stretched and they might have to cut them if they dont shrink. I said alright, this should work out since they confidently told me she would return to normal, just a lil crooked eye possibly. It’s been four days and I’ve noticed that where they have sowed her eye, the eyelid is coming off! It’s like it was extremely damaged with the sting and is now peeling off, on both the top and bottom eyelid. I know this because bunnies have eyelashes and those are connected to the part that is peeling. I immediately called and they fit me in for 2 days from now, but I’m irritated that this happened and was assured that she was fine and the stints weren’t on too hard. They didn’t put any numbing cream or type of anesthesia when they took out the stints, and I told them my bunny is fussy and doesn’t like to be held. I’m starting to think the vet shook it off and probably did it with her just awake. She was probably spooked and part of her eyelid ripped while he took it off.
I want to know if this is vet malpractice? I’ve payed enough for her to have been cared for properly and now I’m going to pay more for what is coming next. I want to know if this is my fault that I didn’t notice or possibly didn’t observe her well? Or would this be the vets fault and should I prepare a conversation when I go in to the office in two days. I’d really like other pet parents and beyond opinions.
