Not sure the best place to put this question so i'll try here. I'm going to get some hate but here goes.
I know that it is painful for them and how bad it is. I just don't know what else to do at this point!
My kitten is just barely a year old now. His whole life he has been a scratcher. He targets the carpet the most and we rent so this really stresses me out. He's been with us since he was 3 weeks old I'm not sure if missing out on time with his mom has something to do with his behavior.
He scratches for attention. I've tried everything. Ignoring him (which is really difficult again we rent and i can't let him do more damage), spraying him doesn't work. He can be practically soaking wet before he cares. I use anti scratch sprays they don't deter him for more than maybe 5 minutes. I play with him until he can't move anymore every night before bed and still without fail 10 minutes after laying down he is scratching around the closet door or the dresser. He has vertical and horizontal scratching posts.
I just got those claw caps in the mail today and I can't even test to see if they fit because he bites and rabbit kicks me. I'm going to try again later but i dont think I'll be able to get them on.
I've googled this so many times and have tried every recommendation! I know it takes a long time for them to learn but i've been implementing these things all year and i feel like he's desensitized to everything.
I obviously don't want to hurt him. He's such a sweetie most of the time but I am at my wits end with being disturbed all night every night and I can't let him keep destroying carpet.
Is there something i haven't tried? Has anyone who has declawed their cat have any regrets? Did your cat seem negatively effected by it after healing?
