Cat has been acting very strange after catching a mouse last week. Looking for insight/advice.

I currently am renting out my parents basement “apartment”, that is literally just a bedroom in the basement at their house. My side of the basement is completely finished, and has a small kitchen area, full bathroom, etc. The other side of the basement is like a lot of basements; concrete floors, storage area, laundry room, etc.

Recently, our cat has started acting very strange. He usually only comes down stairs to poop in his litter box and then quickly run back upstairs to his favorite sleeping spot, or hang out with me for a bit. However, last week he apparently found a mouse somewhere in the house, and brought it to my parents in the middle of the night.

EVER since then, he has been spending extremely large/odd amounts of time in the basement, just staring at random places at the ceiling, especially at ONE specific area of this crawl-space/storage area in the other half of the basement. He’s actually doing this as I’m typing this out, and it’s kinda freaking me out. I have scoured the basement and haven’t been able to find traces of any other rodent activity, but there is a fair amount of space down here for them to sneak around in. I’m mostly just concerned that there might be something wrong with him, or that he’s just lost it mentally. Personally, I think when he caught that mouse, he basically got a “taste for blood”, or something like that, and now he’s just searching in for another one in the area he originally found the first one. Another odd thing is that he mostly just does this at night, after my parents have gone to bed, otherwise he just spends all morning/day upstairs sleeping/eating/doing cat things.

Just confused by the whole situation, and also want to make sure he’s ok. Thanks in advance.
