I have three cats and two dogs. We graze feed all of them and they are all a happy healthy weight. The dog bowl stays on the floor and the cats get fed on top of our fridge because our one dog likes to eat the cat food if she can get at it. We have a series of carpet cat condos going up the wall next to the fridge so they can get up there easily.
My youngest cat will not eat cat food though. She eats and drinks out of the dog bowls exclusively. I’ve heard dog food doesn’t have the correct nutrients for cats. Is this something I should be concerned about? Any suggestions on how to fix it?
I wondered if she felt like she couldn’t eat with the older two cats but the dogs were less... scary? Territorial? I tried setting some food out for her in a different part of the house but I don’t think she touched that either.
I’ve also tried a couple different brands of cat food thinking maybe she just didn’t like the taste of the kind we were feeding the older cats but that doesn’t seem to work either.
The kitten seems to be in with the dogs a little more than the cats (plays with them, cuddles and grooms them more frequently). So I feel like that also plays into it but I don’t think I can change that dynamic.
