I can feel my cat's bones

I have a cat (breed: American Shorthair). Her age is unknown, but we took her in 5 years ago and she was a fully grown adult by then.

Lately while petting her I've been able to feel her bones a lot more than usual. This is something I've recognized in older cats, so I was confused. She doesn't look like she's lost any weight, but she's very fussy so I'm not leaving food related issues out of the equation.

Anyone who is knowledgable about cats please suggest some reasons as to why I can feel her bones more. Is this just something that happens to cats when they get older? Or is there maybe a more serious issue?
