New cat won't let us sleep!

My fiance and I just adopted a 2 year old kitty in February and she is our first fur baby. I'm worried about her temperament/mood. And worried for our sanity.

Night time is a problem. We play, she eats, and then she has the zoomies. After 15 mins of Usain Bolt-like speed running, she eventually will come lay down. Sleeps through the night. The larger issue is waking up in the AM. Currently, we are awoken with a crisp 5am howl alarm clock. She howls. And howls. And brings loud toys into the bedroom. And howls some more. She just wants us awake with her. Even simply taking a shower pisses her off because no one is playing with her.

Her foster home was a retired woman with multiple cats. Now, she is the only animal and we are gone from 8-5 every day. I'm worried she has anxiety from being bored and alone. I also worry she will never learn to be independent.

She is also showing slight signs of play aggression (pouncing on feet, softly biting hands, swatting at us, etc). Never out of anger or too hard, but I still yell “Ouch!” and disengage so she knows I don't want it to escalate. I've bought tons of toys that encourage independent play, I play with her before work, after work and right before bed time. Probably 25 mins total of one on one play. Lots of snuggles.

What else? Is it just repetition that is needed? Is there hope?

TL;DR: My cat is a stage 5 clinger. Is our absence causing anxiety? Also, how do new cat owners sleep?
