Hi all, having a rough time and wondering if anyone could offer some suggestions about my cat’s sudden hissing at my partner?
My cat is 5 and I’ve had her for 4 years. She is overall very affectionate and playful. However, over the past few weeks she has suddenly started hissing at my partner of 1.5 years for no reason. She had previously been friendly with him and had never really hissed before this.
For example, he’ll be walking down the hallway and she’ll jump out and hiss at him. Sometimes it’s a friendly-sounding meow followed by a hiss. She has even hissed at me a couple of times recently after hissing at my partner. Last night, she even woke us up by hissing! Other times though, she seems completely fine with being around him (ex: she will often sit on my lap while we are on the couch together).
I am wondering if she is having trouble adjusting to change due to quarantine - I’m home all the time, my roommate has moved out, and my partner is now here most of the time instead. I’m also about to move to a new place.
We have tried having my partner give her treats when she is being calm/sweet around him, but I’m not sure if it’s helping. After last night where she woke us up by hissing, I know I need to start closing my bedroom door at night :(
I don’t know why this change has happened and I wish things would go back to normal. Thanks so much for reading and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have!
