We already have 2 cats, and me and my gf are looking to adopt a kitten. One cat is a middle aged overweight boy who's verry shy, frightful, and passive. The other cat is a young ~3 years old girl who is prissy and can be mean when she's in the mood. They tolerate each other and play by chasing each other around every once in a while, but the 2 of them aren't really friends.
We're not sure if getting a male kitten would end up with our current male being bullied (our ex roommate had a very hostile and dominant cat that would constantly fight and bully him and make his life miserable) when he gets bigger, or if getting a female would make our current female more jealous and/or territorial with them because of the gender.
My hopes are that getting a kitten that is friendly with our current male cat will encourage him to be more active to lose weight and help him be more confident and less afraid of everything.
