Hi all. New member.
My elderly parents adopted Ginger, an 8-year-old Cattail Coton breeder, last Friday -- which essentially means I've adopted her (which is great as I've had health issues for a while).
She's never had a leash attached to her, nor ever left her first home. Starting Friday, she was very shy, eating little, drinking less, no poops. I took her to the vet yesterday for a checkup/tests, and she's fine except for issues related to being dehydrated.
As of yesterday though, I was able to feed her by hand, and then successfully swap out my hand with her food bowl. I was also able to get her from the car to house on a lease, rewarding her with treats when I atttached/disattached the leash. My parents don't have a fenced yard., so we have a fifty foot secured leashed for her to roam (great neighbors), and a caged off area to poo (as was her previous system).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated --- especially regarding getting her to drink, and best methods for acclimating her to using a leash.
THanks so much!
