I rescued an old pitbull (6 years old)from the shelter close to a month now and while he is by no means aggressive( sweetest boy ever ) when we tried walking and we happen to meet other dogs on walks, he is too excited and whines and lunges with CRAZY STRENGTH and it’s so hard to control him because he’s strong.
Other dog walkers rush away fast and even give dirty looks because my dog is a pitbull.
There have been more walkers too bc of COVID19.
I usually walked him very late at night to avoid people but the evenings have been nice weather but after today’s heart breaking event I might have to go back to late walks.
Does anyone know if this is because he was in shelter for so long, his social skills are lacking? I’m not sure I should try to practice him meeting other dogs if
-
When he gets riled up, I’m not sure I can hold him back and
- It causes inconvenience to others
Thanks
