One of our dogs, Athena, is about a year and a half old. We also have an 11 year old dog, Tommy. Athena is petrified of the basement, but has no history of abuse or anything. She has no problems going up and down the top floor stairs, but she refuses to even go near the basement door if someone else is there. Tommy has no issue going to the basement, and Athena sees Tommy come to the basement regularly - so she should see that there's nothing to be afraid of.
We've tried luring her with treats but as soon as we get to the entrance of the basement she refuses to even come a metre close to us.
Do we carry her to the stairs? Carry her downstairs completely?
Please help!
