So I moved in with my in-laws last month. They have an an acre property, five free range chickens, two small dogs and a large garden. I brought my dog when I moved in, she's a shitzu cross. I've been here a month and I'm finding fleas on everything in my house and I'm covered in bites!!!! I treat my dog, but I still find fleas on her feet and I'm finding them on my couch and I'm thinking they're in my bed now too. My dog is 10 years old and she's always slept in my bedroom, mostly on her bed but occasionally on mine. Shes always been allowed on the furniture. My in laws don't treat they're dogs because they don't seem affected by fleas, I don't know if it's a breed thing or a different fur/hair type thing.
I'm looking for suggestions on how to manage this situation. I'm new to this, in my old home treating my dog was always enough.
Side notes: (1) I'm pregnant, so I personally need to be mindful of chemicals. (2) I live in BC, Canada.
In summary: new home, with chickens and dogs on the property. My dog is now bringing fleas into the home and I'm finding them on her feet and on my couch. Shes treated, but it doesn't seem to be working well enough. Need advice.
