Heya looking for some advice here. My boyfriend and I have lived in a garage of a house for about two years with about 7 room mates (thats right SEVEN) We are REALLY looking forward to move out and discovered the perfect apartment. But it doesnt allow pets, the listing says “Absolutely no pets”. My guinea pig is a caged animal, he literally cannot make property damage, he doesnt stink and doesnt make a lot of noise. Should I risk it? Ive never lived in an apartment before, so im unsure of what could really happen to us if we were to get busted. We havent asked the landlord about the policy and if it extends to caged animals in fear that they’ll say yes and be in even more trouble. The apartment itself is in a kinda crappy location, but it’s quite large for the price, it’s one bedroom 800 sq feet. Most apartments around here for the same price are about 300 sq feet and a plain studio (We even viewed one that didnt have a KITCHEN!). The apartment is a 10 min walk to my work. Since it’s a one bedroom we can easily just move him to the bedroom if a landlord ever needed to check in for some reason. The application fee for this place is 100$, and id hate to waste that so considering all of the factors what should we do? Have any of you guys ever gotten away with sneaking a pet into an apartment? How often do landlords have to check apartments (if they even do that at all..?). Or would it just be worth it to get a crappier place that does allow pets..? Hopefully this is ok for the sub!
