Hi, I’m a concerned neighbor. My neighbor lives behind me and we have a chain link fence separating my four dogs from their one dog. His name is Ryan. I think he’s still a young dog by the looks of him and the sound of his bark. He might be a pit bull terrier and he’s absolutely adorable. My two bigger dogs (german shepherds) and Ryan run back and forth between the fence. I noticed the neighbors left him out for long periods of time outside. When I moved in late summer I noticed the dog would drink out of the pool. I looked for a bowl of food or water and I didn’t see one, but their backyard is not the neatest. I could have overlooked it if there was. It still doesn’t change the fact that I saw him drink unsafe water. This hit one of my nerves and I paid closer attention to Ryan. From the looks of it, he doesn’t look malnourished. Some days he would be out there for days. At least 2-3 and others he would be inside. Now that the weather is getting cold they have him outside 24/7 and I feel so bad for him. The neighbors have kids, but they’re never in the back yard and the dog is left playing with mine by running back and forth. We’ve even thrown him a dog toy for him to play with. (I think they threw it away because we don’t see it) Ryan is a short haired dog and the only shelter they’ve given him is a plastic dog cage that has blankets in it and a blanket laying over it. It’s not lifted off the ground at all. Those blankets will be wet when it rains or snows. I hear him cry at the window basically begging them to let him in. I don’t know if anyone will do anything since they’ve given Ryan “shelter” and has food and water. Also side note, but I know they’re not filling his water up daily or enough because I’ve caught him drinking left over water from the inside of a tire. I’m completely lost for this dog and would take him even though I’m not allowed to have any more dogs (I’m only allowed 2, but I was given all 4 because they were going to take them to a shelter). What are my options if any? Can I do anything for this dog or are the neighbors smart enough to let this dog suffer without any consequences since they gave him “shelter” and have a food and water bowl out for him? I don’t think they’re intentionally wanting to hurt the dog. I honestly think the dog probably has too much energy for them to handle and the kids don’t care much for the dog. I know he’s riddled with fleas because I’m constantly having to give my dogs flea baths and treat the house and yard. They’re terrible out here and I know he’s probably infested with them. Please help
