My boyfriend and I are looking to adopt either a kitten or young cat. And today we went to a foster for a meet and greet. They had 6 cats, 4 seemed to be adults and then just the (3-4 month olds) kitten we were looking at and his brother. They were playful but a little skittish and didn’t really want to be held. I’m a little disappointed because neither of us felt a connection the kitten (or his brother).
I don’t know if this behavior is natural for a kitten that is around strangers for the first time. Or because given their current environment the kittens are more used to the company of other cats than humans. Or if that’s just how they are.
These are Bombay mixes and I’ve read that this breed can be very affectionate which is exactly the type of cat I would love to parent. Just looking for your guys’s experience with adopting young cats and whether or not a skittish kitten was able to warm up eventually.
