I (18F) have recently moved out of my family's house. I plan to move to a different province next year, but for now I'm still in the same city. I can't stay at home because I left earlier than planned due to it being unhealthy between my dad and I, sadly :(.
I have a cat who I adore. My mom and I found her across the road as a kitten when I was only 5 years old, and my cat and I took to each other immediately. We took her to the vet (she was infected and dying when we found her), and after no one wanted her, my parents paid the vet expenses and the rest is history.
While she definitely loves the rest of my family, she has most definitely always been my cat. She's always slept in my room, followed me around, and has always been the closest with me and the happiest around me (but still very happy around my family).
She just joined me today in my new place, and is feeling very homesick. When I started writing this post, she was trying to get my attention at the window (to take her back home, I think is what she was most definitely attempting to get across), but now is finally curled up and purring. I know there is an adjustment period, it's just that she's an old cat now and has never lived anywhere else. I feel bad about taking her away from that house, but for the whole time I've been gone, apparently she's hardly left my bedroom (or what was my bedroom, oof).
She always misses me when I'm gone on trips, but now this is forever (visits just don't seem to be enough, plus I'm avoiding the hours that my dad is at my old house). I miss her so much too and she's old and there probably isn't a whole bunch of time left with her... is it okay to take her to a new place this late in life? Do you think she will adjust okay?
