My 13 year old dog developed a lump on his chest a few months back. Originally we were told it was a lipoma and nothing to worry about. In September it was the size of a dime and over the last few weeks it has grown and grown.
After getting a second opinion we found out it's a mast cell tumor and inoperable because of how quickly it's growing and where it's located.
They gave him temaril p (benadryl & steroid pill) and it shrunk down and didn't look so swollen! We were so happy. But because he can't be on the medicine long term- when we started to ween him off of it the tumor almost doubled in size in a few days. It's gotten so big he has to wear a soft neck pillow around his head to keep him from licking it.
We are giving him benadryl and pepcid but I am desperately trying to find any other drug that might help him or shrink the tumor enough that it's not so swollen and uncomfortable for him.
He's still happy, eating well, going to the bathroom outside, and I just don't think it's his time yet. I'm just not sure if there's any other medicine we can try or do we just have no more options at this point? What was your pet prescribed for theirs?
