Should I adopt the local stray?

I moved to a new city by myself a few months back. There are cats EVERYWHERE in this city. My apartment complex alone has 12-15 cats, very cute but mostly feral.

There’s one cat that’s been my buddy since I moved here. He/she likes to hangout around my building and always approaches me to say hi. It’s incredibly friendly- it has a dog-like disposition. I’ve grown to love it and I plan on feeding it soon to continue to gain its trust.

Since I’m by myself in a new city, I’ve been a bit lonely. I kind of want to adopt this cat to keep me company. I think I could give it a great life: consistent meals, a roof over its head, and lots of cuddles.

Would a stray cat even want to live inside an apartment for the rest of its life or should I just feed it so it can continue being free?
