Should I take my cat back?

Two years ago, I adopted a cat. She was near feral - she was a rescue and extremely distrustful of anyone due to a difficult past. She lived behind my sofa for months and would hiss and claw if you got too close. But with time and patience, she slowly began to trust me and now she is the most sweet playful cat - although she still can be anxious initially, especially around new people.

A year after I got her, I moved cities. I planned to take her with me and took all necessary measures - ensuring the apartment was cat friendly etc. My aunt offered to take her in for a week or so until I got settled in my new place, so my cat wouldn't be stressed with unpacking etc.

However, my aunt kept making excuses when I wanted to take her back, and basically refused to give her back to me. I was/am really frustrated with the situation, and eventually we came to a begrudging agreement that when I move to a bigger apartment she will give me my cat back. My aunt's house is a lot bigger than my small apartment anyway, and she is being very well looked after. But it is obviously frustrating that she did just take my cat.

My cat was also an indoor cat for her whole life. But (I agreed to this) my aunt has a huge garden and she let her out to play sometimes too, which my cat loves.

Now I am in a position where I can move into a larger apartment soon. But I'm now wondering: Should I take my cat back? I can't believe I'm writing this because I love her so much and I would never have imagined giving her up. But after a year now my cat seems really happy in her current home. Plus she has a huge garden to play in - I don't think it would be fair to her to keep her as an indoor only cat now. I can of course find an apartment with a garden - but what about if I move again and I can't find an apartment with a garden again? And is it fair to my cat to keep her if I'm going to be moving every couple of years for the next while - maybe it is better for her to stay in the one home.

I guess my questions are - should I take my cat back when I move, or let her stay with my aunt and visit her when I'm back home? And secondly - was it irresponsible of me to adopt a cat when I am in the position where I knew moving every couple of years may be a possibility for the next portion of my life?
