We just had to put our dog to sleep and now my son won't speak to me.

She hadn't been eating well and today as I was making an appointment with her vet I noticed her stomach was distended. She had a few teeth removed awhile back and thought it was perhaps that. But when we went to our normal vet he sent us to the pet ER. Her liver was failing and pretty much half of her body was nothing but backed up fluids. For context, her appointment was at 4:00. By 9:00 we were saying our goodbyes. To say it came out of nowhere is an understatement. My son loved our dog. He told her he loved her every morning and every night before going to bed. Now he's just completely shut down. I've been crying nonstop but he's just in his room pretending like nothing has happened. I don't want him to push his feelings down and I want him to feel comfortable talking to me. Any ideas as to how to approach him?
