Hey guys so this is something I got to thinking about, Now I’m not claiming I’m a 6th sense nature whisperer but I’ve had too many weird experiences of animals coming to me for help. Squirrels, deer, coyotes, bob cat, I’m starting to wonder if the saying of liking animals more than people is true...
As much as I’d love to tell every story I want the one that stands out for anyone willing to participate!
I shoulda known I was an animal whisperer as a kid, I didn’t grow up with much so the outdoors was my playground.
I at the age of 9 didn’t know what a bob cat was, we had pesky outdoor cats but I saw this bob cat and thought it was the prettiest outdoor cat, it wanted petted played with but it had this abnormal ability to jump pretty damn far and high I was blown away as a kid, before you know it we were chasing each other around the yard and the bob cat would even come up in the tree with me.
Now I know the way I’m talking it sounds like I did not have a lot of supervision I did but our yard was big and from a distance my parents probably thought it was a cat.
Well my bob cat friend disappeared that summer but came back again she had kittens under our shed the following summer.
Well my grandpa was outside one day not the best eye site but was saying I should stay away from the stray cats because they might have diseases.
Well he no more got that out of his mouth and the fastest to this day that old man ran inside and began screaming at me I need to back away from that thing slowly it’s a bob cat. I told my grandpa it’s not a bob it has babies...
Our relationship became more discreet I got the hint early on when babies were under that shed it was a no go, unfortunately this happened back in the late 2010s, our relationship lasted for 5 more summers until I’m assuming she either passed of old age or maybe something happened.
So for 6 summers I got to spend most of my time playing with a bob cat and for the first summer not even realizing it could probably kill me with no effort.
Outside of every weird abnormal animal behavior that’s happened to me, she was by far the strangest bob cat to ever exist.
I really had to keep my relationship with parents and the bob cat discreet luckily they worked and I got to stay home for summer breaks. It did get to the point where they thought it was a terrible idea but were also fascinated a bob cat came back every year to come see me. I did have to admit to our friendship because I used to play outside after supper every evening and she would pace around our yard waiting for me, she got too comfortable and began hopping up on window ledges and waiting outside the door.
My grandparents actually have vhs tapes of me playing with my bob cat, it’s funny because her personality reminded me of my dog who recently passed to make this post and wonder if there’s other people out there that randomly get abnormal bonds with animals. I currently have 2 wild hand trained squirrels who I found begging for food way to young to be out of the nest. They are currently absolutely thriving jumping from tree to tree and hopefully safely power line to power line it makes me absolutely sick seeing them do that in my grandmas neighborhood. I think she still actually feeds them so I’ll definitely try and get some pictures before the winter I have some excellent ones I’ll post in r/aww of when they were babies learning how to do things on their own. These 2 were a pair so I’ll claim them as 1 but this is now 2 times in my life I can pet squirrels. In rebellious attempts for me not to abandon them at a young age they’d for some reason stand under my car, it was the weirdest thing that still doesn’t make sense. Now that they are older and more wild it’s a huge hit or miss if I can get a response for them to come but I do hear them go crazy in the trees when I come and say their names.
