Anxiety over a pet decision (dog vs cat)

So a bit of a background - I love animals, of all sizes, unless they are trying to kill me, or bugs that are trespassing in my apartment. So I would love dog or cat probably the same.I also live alone in a 2 room + kitchen apartment. I have a good job and I am financially stable to probably pay for even the worst that could happen to a pet.

So I was thinking about getting a pet lately, deciding between a cat and a dog. I naturally incline towards dogs, since I see them more often and people I know, all have dogs, so I am more used to them. I even found a little fluf in a dog shelter that I would like to adopt. He was not very active, seemed friendly, not a barker, small enough for an apartment, with longer fur. So I even reserved him, bought stuff I would need. I plan to pick him up in a few days.

And now I have something you could maybe call anxiety over that decision. The more I read about it, the more I think if dog is right pick for me. I am pretty introverted, but would like a company of a pet. But from all the reading I done, seems like dog requires all your attention, while cat does not give a damn.

When it comes to time investment, I have a buttload of free time. But I enjoy spending that free time either playing video games or reading. I even work from home, and once Covid is away, I will be working at least 3 days from home. But that is current employer, maybe in the future, I wont have this option. So right now, going for a walk 3 times a day is not an issue, but who knows what happens in the future. And while I tend to spend most of my time home, I would love to be able to go out for drinks, without being worried if I am out for too long.

Traveling - I tend to travel at least 2 times a year, not these days ofc, for about a week in both cases. I would say 3 times is maximum. But there are "hotels" for both cats and dogs, and while cats are cheaper in this case, it is like 20€ difference for 7 days. I also visit my family once a month, for a weekend. They have a dog, so they would be fine with my dog, but who knows if they will hate or love each other. Theirs is not castrated, mine will be. But with dog, if I will travel via train for example, that is extra cost. I can leave cat for a weekend home alone.

Companionship - Now, I tend to say that cats are assholes. But again, I mostly grew up with dogs, and all the cats I met were not really domesticated. So most of the info I have is from videos of cats throwing shit on the ground. But reading posts here, seems like cat will give you same love as a dog, difference is that dog needs you all the time, cat needs when it is hungry. Again, I want to have a pet companion, a little furball for pets and cuddles, I am just worried that dog, unless I want to turn him into an antisocial asshole, will require too much attention. I am also not sure if he will get used to being home alone for longer periods of times when I change job in the future (and I am pretty sure I will).

Maybe I am just overthinking it and I will have no issues with a dog. My schedule is actually pretty much the same almost every day - Wake up, either go to gym or not (depends on the day of the week), work, play video games / read, get existential crisis while swiping tinder, watch videos, sleep. Taking 2 hours from video games and adding that to a dog time is probably not an issue. I am just so used to my schedule, I am worried that I will hate having walk the dog so much.

Can anyone give me an advice? I am really just overthinking it, or is cat really better for me? Are cats really assholes or not?

Disclaimer: I am not into a sunken cost fallacy, so even if I spent some money on the dog already and will change my decision, I don't care - I will just donate it to the shelter.
