So my husband and I put in an application on an almost 4 year old dog. We visited him and he’s the sweetest. Very loving and affectionate and lower energy. He just needs to go to a home where someone’s always around. My husband works nights so it works out since someone is always home. I’ve wanted a dog for years but never committed as I have 3 cats that I adore and worry about them hating me for bringing home a dog. I always assumed we would need to get a puppy but I just can’t do a puppy. That’s too much time and work to train and everything. I figured getting an older dog that’s already housebroken and chill would be the way to go.
Now I’m so worried that we shouldn’t get this dog if we are picked. What if my cats don’t adjust and I won’t be able to hold them or snuggle them anymore? I’ve never had issues when adopting cats as the oldest always loved when I brought home a new kitten.
The dog doesn’t have any issues with cats and the shelter will bring him to my home to have a meet up. I know one of them will immediately hide under the bed cause he’s not into strangers and I’m unsure about the other two. One will definitely meet the dog and it could go either way with the third cat. Should I just not get a dog? I have very affectionate cats that I’d like to keep that way. But I also don’t want to be held hostage and never be able to get at least one dog in my life. I’m not sure what to do. Maybe I’m overthinking it.
