I have a 2 1/2 year old Syrian hamster. Today I found him extremely weak and thin, he was having trouble walking and breathing when I found him. His eyes were also shut and I believe he has sticky eye. I honestly thought he was going to pass because of the way he was acting, (curling up in a ball, having trouble breathing) so I got him as comfortable as possible and began feeding him some fruit as I prepared for him to leave this world. I began to work away at the crust in one eye, and then the other. The first eye eventually opened with no trouble. As I worked away at the crust in his other eye which was very swollen, a large amount of smelly pus began to drain from the eye. I kept wiping away at the crust with damp gauze and a q tip and the worser eye eventually opened. There are no 24 hour exotic vets open in my area, but I will be visiting one as soon as they open tomorrow.
Has his time come, or is there any hope for him to get better?
Thanks for any advice, I would just like to minimize his suffering as much as possible.
