I live in south of India and I always wanted to keep a parrot as a pet. But it was always expensive and hard to come by. So few days back when my mother went out she saw some people selling parrots for fairly cheap price and decided to buy it and a cage too. The cage is huge and the parrot can walk freely in the cage. It also has a swing.
But the bird has her wings cut halfway so it wont fly away. My Mom didnt notice it but i did. It is also missing a part of the tail. Probably done by the people who caught it from the jungle. Shes around 1 year old.
But from the moment I actually got the bird Im in turmoil. I can't look at the bird. I feel regret. She's alone and away from her folks. She cant fly and she's in a strange place with strange humans. She looks extremely terrified. When i left the cage out she stared into the distance which literally broke my heart. I did wanted a bird but not like this. This bird lived in the forest and now in captivity. It just kills me.
So what Im thinking is to let the bird free. Her wings seems to heal up and she tries and spreads her wings evertime. I can't really tell anyone that Iam because my mom already spent a lot on its cage, food, special plates etc.
The help I need from the bird keepers in this subreddit is to kindly give me some advice regarding my plan.
*My plan is to wait till the wings are all grown back(does it grow back if its only the feathers that's been cut)
*As soon as she's able to fly let her out of the cage at night when everyone sleeps(Is it ok to let a bird out at night)
*The dense forest that this bird came from is around 5Km from my house(The people who caught it told my mom about the place they got it from) . Will she find her way back or should I take her there and let go.
Maybe after few days she'll become friendly but my conscience isn't really letting me keep her as a pet. She belongs in the jungle not in a small cage
Help, please and thank you
