Ok so after lots of research and actually working at a vet clinic for years, I think my current doctor might be wrong. She told me my cat should get 550 calories a day in order to lose weight. Every online weight loss calculator for cats is much lower than that, plus I’ve had my cat on science diet metabolic diet for 3 months at 1/2 a cup a day which is like 300 calories and he hasn’t lost anything. I have a friend who’s cat is the same size as mine and their vet told them 250 calories. My vet recommended me switching foods(I already did as I’m not a fan of the fillers in hills), but I am debating on lowering his calories more. I’m going to start incorporating more play and have been trying to give him wet food, but he’s super picky so I’m still trying to transition. Just curious, for any of those whose cats have lost weight, how many calories a day did your cat get or if he was on hills metabolic dry, how many scoops a day? I try not to doubt my vets, but I was like 99% sure she was wrong on this one when she recommended 600 calories when he already only gets 300. Also he just had bloodwork done and everything is normal.
