TLDR: Tried to remove my recently adopted cat from an apartment with a severe gas leak and failed multiple times. My cat is hiding and refuses to interact with me. Any advice on how to fix this?
I adopted a (1yo) cat about a month or so ago and the cat really bonded with me after the first day. He's really shy so usually new people or loud experiences scare him off.
Anyways this morning, there was a gas leak in the apartment unit next to mine and when I was calling my landlord & utility company, I attempted to catch my cat so I could get him out of danger. After baiting him into the carrier failed which I was successful when I took him to the vet and other times after that, I tried to grab him forcefully to put him in the cage.
A few failed attempts later, he got to a spot that was unreachable and the odor of gas was unbearable so I decided to keep the windows wide open and leave apartment. About 20 minutes later my landlord and utility company came by and investigated the smell. There was no trace signs of gas originating from my studio (no gas line), but the source was from a tenant who left their stove on for a few hours prior to leaving. I asked the utility company person if it was alright to leave my pet in the studio and then said yes.
Fast forward to this afternoon and my cat is hissing at me and completely avoiding me. Should I leave him be for the next few days so he warms back up to me or are there any other methods that I should try to rekindle my bond with my cat?
