My family has two small dogs, a terrier mix and a Maltipoo. They bark incessantly and it drives me crazy. But my wife loves them so I deal with them.
The bigger issue with the barking happens when we leave home. Pretty much every time we go on a vacation, we have the neighbors across the street take care of the dogs. The go out into the backyard during the day and stay in the laundry room at night, and have access to that room any time.
The nextdoor neighbor seems to complain about the dogs barking every time we go.
Aside from boarding them at a much higher cost, is there anything we can do to help them stop barking, or at least limit it, when we are away?
