I'm about to send my cats to my parents house for five months and... they have fleas.

I'm taking them to the vet tomorrow to ensure I'm correct, but I've suspected something was wrong for a few weeks. My two cats have been excessively grooming-- Anni has pulled out hair on her back, and Tess has had one adorable but concerning 'airplane ear' for a while. Then today, while looking at the bald spot on Anni, I saw a flea. Arg!

These girls are inside cats, so it was unexpected. My hunch is that Anni, who ran away for a full day four months ago, brought some home with her.

I have no choice to take them to my parents house. This has been planned for a while, and I'm going somewhere cats can't go. My parents have two cats already and I want to make sure my cats don't transmit fleas to them.

I know my veterinarian will be able to give more advice, but my anxiety is through the roof and I wanted to hear if anyone had any particularly good stories about getting rid of fleas quickly. We're leaving our apartment (we rent and will no longer hold a lease) in twenty days. I can isolate them to a room at my parents house, but will that do the trick while we make sure the fleas are gone?

I'm assuming I'll start with topical ointment tomorrow. I can brush them with the flea brush. My one cat is large and aggressive, and medium-haired... brushing her sensitive spots, bathing her, or shaving her, will leave me a pile of shredded skin.

Please... someone say something to calm me down, or inspire me. I'm desperate for a little internet hug.

Much love. < 3
