is it ok that my puppy is this calm?

i adopted a 2 year old shih-tzu terrier mix from the local shelter and he's the sweetest thing, but he doesn't play very hard or often. i will try to instigate play with him and he will join me for a moment, but he mostly prefers to lay on the couch and chew his toys rather than chase them or me. I take him out into the yard often but he never wants to stay out long once he's done doing his business. I'll take him on walks but he doesn't get exited for them and is usually pretty happy when we get home. he's mostly just very calm and sort of timid, even after becoming more comfortable with the new house and people.

don't get me wrong, I am happy to have a low maintenance dog! but should I do something to encourage him to run around more? or will he be fine as sort of a chill couch potato as long as i take him on daily walks and portion his food correctly? i've just never met a dog this young that's so calm!

we took him to see a vet the day we got him and she said he looked healthy if not a little underweight from stress in the shelter
