I know this will sound made up/exaggerated but it's 100% true and has been happening annually for about 5 years. Basically, every summer in August my cat will randomly take off for several days and nights and she wont come back home at all during this time. Every year we make posters to put out in case she's lost and last year she had been gone for 7 nights which was the longest time so far, so I went to make a 'missing' poster again. I noticed that the dates I had saved the previous missing posters where almost to the exact day, as in she does this literally almost exactly annually every year. Every year when she comes back she isn't hungry or bedraggled in anyway she just seems extremely happy and maybe slightly more tired than usually for the next couple of days. At first I thought maybe she has another home or family she visits but I feel like it wouldn't make sense for her to go there only once a year in summer. She doesn't do this any other time of the year, she will never even spend one night away from the house apart from during the period of days she always goes in August, I feel like if she was visiting another house she would probably be away a few nights here and there throughout the year. Also, whenever we eventually put up missing posters asking people to check the garages for her she always seemingly immediately appears a few hours after - she is one of the most street wise cats I've ever come across and spends a lot of time outside (though doesnt stay out overnight) so I find it hard to believe she is just annually getting locked in someones garage, maybe she can just feel our anxiety or something at that point? I'm not sure. It's so strange and I'm desperate to know where she goes but I cant think of any theories that would make sense! Has anyone had anything similar to to this, or if not do you have any theories what she's doing?
