So I’m having an issue with my baby-child, Luna. She is absolutely obsessed with eating plastic. Specifically, the crinkly film plastic you get on things like bunches of grapes. We constantly try to avoid having anything like this in the house but sometimes we fail. She will go as far as opening cupboards to get up to the plastic or going into my handbag to find some. I would say we have caught her too late around five times. We frequently catch her half way through eating it and grab it from her. She also likes to tear cardboard apart but doesn’t seem to eat it (we keep it out of the house anyway, just in case).
She is exceptionally in-tune with the sound of crinkly plastic and seems to remember where she has heard it so she can go and find it when we aren’t in the room. She has no health issues and is eating really good quality food, as well as chicken and tuna scraps nearly every day. She is really active and I haven’t seen any adverse effects but I’m so worried.
I’m genuinely concerned that she won’t be able to pass the plastic and that it is building up in her tummy. I’m sort of obsessing over this concern.
Does anyone else have this problem? Is there a medical reason for her obsession? Should I bring her to the vet?
Thanks in advance!
