Now just to put out there, my kitten and my husband are very close. They always cuddle and she constantly waits for him by the door when he comes home and waits when we leave anywhere until we return just to sit on his lap and purr for hours on end.
But recently, Monday, my kitten had a bad accident. She had ran full speed into a wall (we assume due to no puncture wounds) and had a hair-like fracture on her skull. She was coming in and out of consciousness and bleeding from her nose, it was very scary.
When it happened, my husband was the first to find out and we rushed to find a vet on Monday night but everything was closed and we couldn’t afford to take her to a 24 hour clinic, so we decided to attempt to wait it out until our vet opened in the morning.
Luckily, she was a trooper and stayed awake all night while my husband was at work (he works the night shift) and I nursed to her aid all night. In the morning we took her and the vet gave her a steroid shot and pain medication.
Since the initial injury happened, I have been taking care of her and doing the usual things I do for the cats (feeding, cleaning up after them, etc) since I’m home all day and she has MUCH improved.
She is capable of walking and she started jumping and playing again, but still cautious and a bit wobbly. Now here’s where I’m confused.
She has NEVER been afraid of my husband. She LOVES to run away and look back when he comes home in hopes he’ll chase her and then cuddle afterward. So it came as a surprise that she now avoids him. I placed her on the bed with him and she freaked out.
She comes out and sits with me and comes to me but not him. She will sit with him sometimes if he puts her in his lap but will leave if he leaves her alone for too long which never happened before. Usually she just stays there because she enjoys our company.
I really don’t know what this means. I know 100% he has never hurt her in any way because he works the night shift so I see them both all day together and he treats her like a bubble he doesn’t want to pop.
Is there something I’m missing? Is she acting this way because I nursed her and he didn’t? Should I get him to feed the cats and give her treats so she sees him as a good person again? I’m at a loss honestly and I’d really like the help if it can be given.
