I’m not sure if I’m looking for advice or anything but I really just need to share this cause it’s been killing me. I live on a lake and my family has on and off raised ducks. Right now we have three, but one in particular has become very trusting. They come up to the house everyday for food, and she’ll always walk right up to our feet. But a little over a week ago, only the other two came up, which is weird cause they usually don’t come up without her. At first I figured maybe she was sitting on a nest somewhere. But after a few more days I started to worry, I’ve really grown to love her so I was definitely concerned. She likes to jump up on things while waiting for us to see her, like backs of chairs and railings. We have this very large vase on our back porch and a few days ago I thought I heard her jump on it, but nothing was there. So I decided to go see if maybe a squirrel had gotten inside, when I looked in, it was her. I was shaken. When we got her out she flew right to the lake, I bet she was so thirsty. Thank goodness it rained, otherwise I’m not sure she would’ve lasted. When I took her some food, she rejected it and swam away. Her poor tail feathers were so ruffled and messed up. I just can’t help but think how scared she was and wonder if this could really traumatize her. Only thing I’m glad about is that we called her name everyday so she knew we were looking for her. I also am frightened by the thought of if we hadn’t found her in time, only to possibly find her later on, dead. Ugh, no. That’s heartbreaking to think about. It’s been a couple days since we found her and she hasn’t been back since. But i haven’t seen the other two either, so hopefully they’re all together just roaming the lake. Sorry for making this so long, I just really needed to get this out on paper. How worried should I be? If/when she comes back, is there anything I need to do to make sure she’s okay and healthy? I’m so sad for her, I just want her to be okay. Thanks for reading.
