My "Friend" Gave My Cats Fleas

NOTE BEFORE READING: I give my cats Revolution topical flea protection every month, including before this happened.

About a month ago, I agreed to watch an acquaintance's cat for a night, and before doing so I asked if the cat was on flea protection and had been treated for fleas because the cat was a previous stray kitten. She insists that the cat is treated and flea-free.

Later, after she has left for work, I look closely to see fleas crawling all over the cat's face and I can tell that the cat is infested. I let her know and ask if I can give the cat a bath, which she is okay with. When I bathe the cat, I end up picking off DOZENS of fleas. The cat's gums are white because of what I now assume is anemia. I ask her to come get her cat earlier than planned, because I have two cats and a carpeted apartment.

After this, my "friend" buys one of those shitty Hartz flea collars that are known to cause chemical burns. I warn her about this, and she says she will "keep an eye on it". I send her pictures of people's Amazon reviews where their cats are burned from the product and then she eventually concludes that she will use it on its lowest setting because the burns apparently only occurred on the highest setting.

Her roommate sent me a video of her cat crying and sticking her paws under the door because she leaves her cat alone in her room for hours to go see her boyfriend, who her cat doesn't like. I honestly feel sorry for the cat; she is clearly neglected and mistreated.

A month later, my cats still have fleas and I am finding flea eggs and dirt everywhere, even after I have vacuumed and treated my carpet and cats with diatomaceous earth. I have washed my cats with dawn soap and water, and my clothes and bedding more than once on the hottest setting.

I genuinely feel depressed and disgusted, I have done my best to protect my cats and we are all suffering. My "friend" claims that she didn't see the fleas on her cat (which is not possible; her cat is a light grey tabby) and she had apparently noticed her cat scratching too and thought nothing of it. She is going to pay for me to rent a steam cleaner from PetSmart, but I honestly feel like nothing can make up for this. I also wish that her poor cat had a better owner.
