Tobi (Toy Poodle, 3 years old) vomited five times yesterday due to an upset stomach after eating a piece of fast food he snuck out the garbage. It was either that, or the new brand of treats I bought for him to try.
I immediately took him to the emergency vet hospital and he had to stay overnight due to severe dehydration. They hooked him up on IV fluids to stabilize his body.
He was discharged this morning and is now sleeping in my bed. He's been really weak all day. I've been trying to feed him a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) but he won't eat it. He also refuses to drink anything. He didn't eat anything yesterday either, because his stomach was too upset to eat. It's now been almost 2 days since he's eaten anything.
I'm scared he'll get dehydrated again and I'll have to bring him back to the hospital. I don't want to stress him out. That'll just make him lose his appetite again even though he's probably starving and thirsty.
What can I do to encourage him to eat and drink? I'm so desperate and worried....
