Tips for fostering cats?

I am in the process of becoming a foster for cats. Does anyone with experience have some important tips or advice for me?

To give some background, I have one cat (about 5 years old) and one dog (about 3 years), they are both female. Dog is a shepherd mix so she has a lot of energy, but she has been living with my cat for almost a year now and has learned to respect the cat's space.

My cat doesn't have a problem with the dog, but she isn't interested in being friends. My cat has lived with other cats in the past and has shown no signs of being territorial. She isn't super social with animals (she's more of a people cat), but she's very calm and friendly enough. She adjusts well to changes.

I live in a 2 bedroom, and the second room is basically the cat's room. That's where all her stuff is, and where she spends most of her time. I keep a gate on it so the dog can't get in.

I'm thinking of putting a kennel in the cat's room for the foster cat to stay in, at least until everyone gets comfortable. I can keep it covered with a blanket to reduce stress.

Other than that, I don't have much to go on. I'm totally new to this but it's something I've always wanted to do. Just hoping for some help so that things go as smoothly as possible.
