I feel guilty even posting this, and considered using a throwaway for fear of judgement, but here goes--
My wife and I have a 7 year old Pomeranian. We've had her since she was 8 weeks old. She's adorable and we absolutely love her. We trained her as a puppy and, generally, she's done well with not having accidents.
We also have a 2 year old son. Every since he was born, our Pom has had behavioral changes. To be sure, our family dynamic has changed, and she isn't getting the same kind of attention that she did before our son. But we absolutely are not ignoring or neglecting her. it's just not as constant as it was before.
The behavioral changes mostly have to do with our Pom losing?/forgetting?/stopping? her prior potty training, and she now pees at random, no matter how recently she has been outside. I'd be lying if I said it hasn't built up to something that greatly stresses us out. We've been trying to crate her at night, which is something we haven't done since she was a puppy, but she will whine until one of us decides that we need to sleep enough that we let her out. We both work full time jobs and have secondary jobs. We just don't have the time to retrain her from scratch. It's crossed our mind that she might have an infection, but at her last vet visit (2 months ago), our vet couldn't feel any bladder stones.
To make matters more complicated, our dog is epileptic. She hasn't had a seizure in quite some time. It used to be more frequent, but I'd guess it's been about 6-12 months since her last seizure. It's sparse enough that when we had her on meds for it, she was having the seizures more frequently, so our vet told us to keep her off the meds unless she began having more than x number of seizures in a given month.
We want what's best for her, of course, but we just don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.
