Hi guys! My boyfriend and I just recently adopted a wonderful 10-year-old female cat. We've had her for about five days now and it's been mostly pretty good. We have one issue, though, and that's that when she go to the bathroom in her litter box, she seems to go in the corner of it and miss half the time. She hasn't peed anywhere else in the apartment besides in/over the side of the box, so I don't get the impression that it's a behavioral thing.
She hasn't gone to the bathroom a lot (one BM, four/five times peeing) but we've noticed every time she goes in the corner of the box (like, she hardly walks in or turns, she just takes one step in and goes) and she doesn't squat. She just stands and goes wherever. I brought her to the vet yesterday and they said everything looks good, so I don't think it's a medical issue. I thought maybe arthritis because she's a bit older, but the vet didn't seem concerned.
Originally, we had a covered box, but she's a big girl and I didn't get the impression she liked it. Should we just get a lidded box and take the non-lidded one away? Maybe a more shallow box? Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks!
The vet suggested a lidded box, but I worry she won't go in one because of her initial disinterest in it. I don't want her to avoid going or go somewhere else outside the box. Is there any way to incentivize her going deeper into the box to go to the bathroom?
