I just thought I'd talk about the joys of adopting.
In May I adopted a second cat to keep my established cat company. Due to health issues I am in and out of hospital and suspected that despite being quite aloof and self-sufficient, my established cat (female Norwegian Forest Cat, 6 years old, rescued at 2 weeks) might like some company.
She's not a big fan of kittens, so I adopted a 4-year-old male boofer (I suspect Turkish Van) as a potential buddy.
It worked. After a week of bullying him, she accepted him into her territory and now they're besties who play together, mutually groom, and curl up together.
In addition, the new boy loves my toddler son.
Well, my parents just took my son and I camping for a week, and tonight is our first night back. Sam (Norwegian) was like "oh, you're back, good timing as I can see the bottom of my bowl", but Jasper (new boy) is being smoochy and making me feel like I was actually missed lol
There's something about adoptees, particularly the older ones. They seem to really understand that they're loved where maybe they weren't before, and they give it back 100%
