I've got a 14 year old yellow domestic shorthair cat with one eye named Phantom. He used to keep himself busy and do a lot of hunting outside but as of the last two years or so, he's entered what we're dubbing his "retirement years" as he doesn't seem to be interested in hunting nearly as much any more. There's still the odd catch every month or so, but it's gotten more infrequent with time.
Being in his "retirement years" he chooses to spend most his time inside. He is constantly bored and look for attention in any way he can. He follows you around, opens and closes cabinets, opens doors that have handles, bites your ankles, the list goes on. He's a smart cat, he knows how to get your attention. We keep his food bowl in the laundry room up on the counter. The laundry room leads in to the garage and he will sit in front of the door to the garage to block your path and act like he can't jump so that you pick him up and put him on the counter. He's not even going up for food, he literally just does it for attention. He instantly starts purring when he wins and you pick him up, but he'll get bored and jump up on his own without issue if you just stand there and stare at him.
Anywho, I don't have the time in my schedule to spend 8 hours giving him the attention he craves and I want to find some sort of toys or cat tower or something that can help him with his boredom. I've tried those "videos for cats" on youtube and he has no interest in those. He completely ignores laser pointers, fake mice are of no concern to him. In fact, real mice aren't even of concern to him... Caught a live one in the garage a few weeks back and I brought him out so he could have it as a treat. He acted as if it didn't exist the entire time I had it and when I set it on the ground for him we watched it run away...
So, any advice on things to try or things he might like would be very much appreciated. Here's a few pictures to get you acquainted :)
